Origin

Wild Food Japan grew out of travel across rural Japan for property work. Hunters, butchers, growers and processors kept showing me products that were easy to trust on the ground and hard to find, buy or explain anywhere else. Private dinners, JaCamp and years of work with independent creators showed the same gap from the buyer side.

Build

The site helps restaurants find suitable producers, check season, samples, lead times and ordering requirements, and prepare menu and staff language they can use accurately. Individual buyers compare wild meat, sea salt, free-range eggs and matcha by product, region and producer, then buy through each producer’s own shop. Every listed shop is reviewed for identity, official checkout, legal seller and public quality evidence.

Now

The site runs in Japanese and English and publishes cited gibier supply data built from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ public figures, showing where Japan’s wild meat supply falls short. Producers sell and fulfil their own orders; Wild Food Japan is not the merchant of record. It started as Wild Meat Japan, and that domain now redirects to wildfood.jp.
