Its job in the stack
I use WPMU DEV when several WordPress sites need a shared operational view for updates, backups and performance work. Central management can reduce the chance that a small client site is forgotten.
The dashboard is not a substitute for site-level ownership. Each installation still needs its own domain, access, plugin and recovery record.

Limits
What it does not solve
Bundling many services can increase coupling. Export and migration paths should remain clear.
