Why I use it
Its job in the stack
I use Tailscale when a team needs private access across laptops, phones and servers without exposing administrative services or manually maintaining a traditional VPN hub. Identity-aware membership and direct encrypted connections make small networks easier to operate.
Convenience does not remove the need for network boundaries. Device approval, access-control policy, account recovery and offboarding still determine who can reach each service.
Where it earns its place
Work I use it for
- 01Private remote access
- 02Device-to-device networking
- 03Service isolation
- 04Temporary team access
Limits
What it does not solve
The control plane and identity provider become important dependencies. Access policies, device posture and removal procedures need regular review.
