OBS Studio

Open-source recording and live-production software for video, audio and screen capture.

Why I use it

Its job in the stack

I use OBS when a production needs dependable screen recording, live scene switching or several audio and video sources combined into one controlled output. It is useful for tutorials, interviews, demonstrations and event streams without locking the production workflow to a proprietary platform.

OBS is the capture and switching layer, not the archive or publishing destination. Scene collections, profiles, source media, recordings and delivery settings need explicit ownership outside the application.

  • 04Multi-source capture

Limits

What it does not solve

A flexible production surface can become fragile when sources, devices and audio routes are unnamed. Recordings need monitored storage and an independent backup path.
